BIRKEN

MONSTERA

Birken might sound unfamiliar to you, but you might know the artist behind this name as Andreas from [ B O L T ]. Thomas from [ B O L T ] already released his solo material as ninemiles via Midira, so we are very happy that Birken also joined the family with his debut album Monstera.

Birken concentrates on guitar sounds, mostly in a way that you think someone added some synthesizer sounds, but that´s a false conclusion, everything is made by six strings and some soundeffects. As Andreas is also interested in old school recordings he captured all the tracks without overdubs, what makes the tracks predestined for a tape release.

The songs, all named after plants, are very experimental always moving between ambient and drone, but you also can capture a kind of recurrent melody, what makes the characteristic difference compared to other releases of the same genre. “Monstera” comes up with four tracks, mostly in an ambient mood, but morphing occasionally into different ways, which makes this album a must-listen.

Not enough that the album is a special soundjourney, Birken had a special artwork inspiration which ended up in an edition of 50 tapes with 50 different artworks. All cardboard sleeves have a unique silkscreen print of monstera leafs plus a second black silkscreen lettering print on it.

You can choose between the following options:

20 sage green tapes housed in yellow cardboard sleeves
