PORYA HATAMI & MONOLOGUE
Porya Hatami and Marie Rose (aka Monologue) met online and began a dialogue based on their shared interest in musique concrete. The so formed musical pair consolidated this relationship by sending sound ideas and sketches to each other, and soon an outline for a collaborative project took shape.
“La Commune” (the album title refers to the Paris Commune of 1871) distills their mutual love of textured, tactile sounds. Weaving expressionist strands together, their approach has been very much formed by musique concrete, creating collages of non-musical sounds into a longform piece that bristles with energy. Processed field recordings nestle among vast vistas of metallic drones, and the pair found themselves intuitively relating to each other in this sonic two-way exchange.
We used kraft cardboard to accentuate the abstract artwork, which comes in a 4 panel digisleeve with a very smooth but rough finsih. Every copy has a unique finish structure, cause of the kraft material that got used to print the covers.
