AYA LION
Aya Lion from Jerusalem is a composer, saxophonist, and sound artist. On her debut album “Trains” Aya takes us on a sound journey, full of impressive structures and themes. The album is indeed based on a journey and it is a kind of musical photoalbum that documents all the stations of Aya Lions trip through the USA.
On “Trains” you will not find epic ambient or drone tracks. The soundcosmos of Aya Lion is build up by different elements, that make the tracks sound very special, somewhere between field recording, jazz and experimental electronic sounds. Take your time to listen to all the tracks at once, to discover the whole experience of that album.
“Trains” comes as exclusive digital album for the last bandcamp friday in 2024. The download also includes a digital booklet featuring the album credits and photographies from Ayas journey.
AYA LION ABOUT THE ALBUM
“Trains” comprises saxophone layers and field recordings from my travels in the United States. The album takes its inspiration from the landscapes I came across, the trains I observed and listened to during my travels, and the abandoned railway towns I passed through in the Texan desert. Wandering with an extraterrestrial sense of alienation, leaving behind traces of sound in the forest of digital nuclei. Like traces, the album simultaneously expresses the present and the absent.
“Trains” is an experimental album that oscillates between ambient soundscapes, drawing influence from jazz, as well as sounds from nature and urban environments. The album is an ongoing dialogue between the acoustic and the electronic, the tangible and the abstract. It blends new textures with traces of remnants sounds. In the album, I recorded saxophone layers, and I stretched the recorded material through play, sculpting, and manipulation using Max/MSP software.
