NADJA
After releasing the massive “Nalepa” instrumental Album back in 2022, Nadja return to Midira Records with “cut”. It´s the first Nadja Album on Midira Records featuring vocals and it’s not just the vocals of Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff, there are also guest vocal appearances by Tristen Bakker, Oskar Bakker-Blair and Lane Shi Otayonii, just to name a few surprises you will hear on “cut”.
“cut” features four epic tracks on double Vinyl, one track per side. The tracks feature the typical doom shoegaze sounds you know from other Nadja albums, but there is also a big wave of new influences, like the use of guest vocals as part of the sound wall structure instead of classic lyrics contributions. There is also a variety of instruments that build up the different soundwalls, sometimes quiet, sometimes loud. You will find harp, French horn and saxophone sounds, melting with the bass and guitar drones of Aidan & Leah.
The double vinyl comes in two colourways. 150 copies on black vinyl and 100 copies on bone cream coloured vinyl. All housed in a gatefold sleeve featuring artwork by Jesse Narens. The mystical artwork with all those organic forms and creatures fit´s perfectly to the dark sounds of “cut”.
Nadja about “cut”
Thematically, “cut” explores trauma and physio-/psychological stress, as well as possible tools and means of overcoming these stressors, of which the music itself (sonic sublimation) might be one.
Musically, while Nadja retains their signature wall-of-noise doomgaze sound, they also explore quieter, more introspective moments as well as new/different instrumentation, with harp, french horn, and saxophone featuring for the first time on one of the band’s recordings.
